The connections I’ve made with my professors have helped me solidify my future plans and build confidence in myself

For Mallory Hudson, choosing Hiram College was about connection. “From my first visit I felt a sense of community between everyone on campus,” she shared. “I knew I wanted to form strong relationships with my peers and professors—and the small class sizes make that possible.”
Originally from Salem, Ohio, Mallory is double majoring in integrative exercise science and biomedical humanities with a minor in Spanish. Her academic curiosity and compassion for others shine through both her coursework and campus involvement. One of her favorite classes so far has been “Writing About the Body” with Dr. Waples. “I was nervous about taking a creative writing class, but she made it so easy to follow along and even enjoy the writing process,” Mallory said. “The pieces I wrote in that class are some of my favorites to this day.”
Working towards her future

Beyond the classroom, Mallory is deeply involved in campus life. She’s a member of Eclectic Scholars (where she’ll serve as Vice President in 2025–26), Alpha Zeta Theta, the Integrative Exercise Science Club and Quiz Bowl Team, CRUSH, Medicus, and the Hispanic Culture Club. She also works as a student athletic trainer, serves as a resident assistant, and volunteers weekly at UH Portage Hospital, where she assists patients and provides a friendly face in the hospital’s daily rhythm.
“When I’m not in class, I love working out, hiking, reading, or watching Grey’s Anatomy with friends,” she said. Her favorite place to study or relax on campus? “The top floor of the library—it’s peaceful and has a great view.”
After Hiram, Mallory plans to attend physician assistant school and pursue a career as a pediatric physician’s assistant. “Working in the athletic training room has taught me many first aid skills and ways to help people in pain,” she reflected. “The connections I’ve made with my professors have helped me solidify my future plans and build confidence in myself.”
Since arriving at Hiram, Mallory says she’s grown tremendously in confidence and leadership. “In high school, I wasn’t someone who ‘led the pack,’ but at Hiram, I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone and taken on leadership roles. I’ve learned that I really like being a leader and seeing the impact I can have on people.”
When asked to sum up her Hiram experience in three words, Mallory didn’t hesitate: Challenging, inspiring, and fun. And her advice for future Terriers? “Your experience will be what you make of it.”
