Media Services

Media Services’ primary goal is to meet the campus’s academic and classroom multi-media needs. The center provides onsite technical support for classrooms, multimedia equipment setups for presentations, meetings, events, and more.

Students have access to several computer labs and College software across campus:

  • 24-hour lab in the Kennedy Center (Printing available)
  • Library (Printing available)

Classroom labs include: Hinsdale, Gerstacker, Colton (Computer Science), Frohring Music (Music lab), Gelbke (Art lab), Mac Equipped Classroom (Library Lower Level)

Residential Network and Wireless

The residence hall network is a high-speed wireless network covering both inside and outside the residence hall buildings, supported 24x7x365 by Apogee. For any of your ResNet Support questions and issues, please direct them to Apogee: 833.410.2428 or support@apogee.us

Charging stations are available in areas across campus, including the Dining Hall and Kennedy Center. The stations allow students to charge their iPad for classroom and personal use.

Information Technology FAQ

Students are provided iPad bundles with access to Microsoft Office apps for any course work. Hiram College also has several computer labs, including a 24-hour lab, for student computing and printing. These labs contain any specific software, like SPSS, used for some classes. Students in specific programs may be asked to bring another computing device to campus.

Yes. Hiram College provides each student with an Office 365 email account. Email is our primary way to contact students while on campus, so it is vital each student access their account daily.

Many Hiram College residence halls feature large, flat-screen televisions for student leisure. Some of these spaces also contain Apple TVs for projection from a students’ iPad. Other services such as wireless and wired networking are provided in every room.

A telephone line is not provided.

Students can print through our computer labs located in the Kennedy Center and in the Library from the available desktop computers or from their iPads. Students are provided with a credit of $30 per year for printing and can add more money at any time through our Student Accounts office. Poster printing for classes is available in the Service Center and color printing is available in Library.

Thanks to our Microsoft 365 licensing, Hiram College provides students with 5 free Microsoft Office suite downloads through their email. They can put Microsoft Office on any personal device(s) they choose. Any other required software is provided through our computer labs and apps on the iPads*.

*Some classes may require software along with a textbook. It is the responsibility of the student to purchase the necessary software.

While we do not offer any anti-virus software, there are plenty of free and built-in options for students. Windows 10 comes with a built-in anti-virus software known as Windows Defender. Other options include Malwarebytes, Norton, McAfee, etc*. Students may seek other free or paid-for software at their discretion.
