Every event, program, and interaction is an opportunity to make Hiram a place where students feel connected, supported, and excited to be part of the campus community.
Allyson Hartzell ’27 was drawn to Hiram’s beautiful campus and the helpful and welcoming faculty and staff. With aspirations to teach at the college level, Hartzell plans to teach high school history while she continues her education to earn her master’s and doctorate degrees. Here at Hiram, her favorite course has been “The History of Vietnam”, where she had the opportunity to learn about one of her favorite historical events.
When asked how Hiram is preparing her for life after graduation, Hartzell replied, “Hiram College has prepared me through rigorous history coursework, research opportunities, and leadership experiences that have strengthened my communication, critical thinking, and teaching skills. These experiences have given me a strong foundation to pursue a career teaching history at both the high school and college levels.”
Campus Involvement
Hartzell serves as Vice President of Activities for student Senate, President of TAB, Historian and Treasurer of AZO, and Treasurer of PERCH. She is also the Senior OCI Event Coordinator and works as a Welcome Center Manager.
Hartzell has found many ways to get involved on campus and fully embraces each opportunity she has. Her freshman year, she joined the Terrier Activities Board (TAB) and has not looked back. She credits TAB for helping her find some of her closet friends. Taking on the role of president moving into her senior year, Hartzell looks forward to putting on new and exciting events for students across campus. Working with several clubs and organizations, she has found something she is deeply passionate about: bringing people together.
