Rocco Yeargin ’93
Mayor of Green, OH
English & Business Management Major
Rocco Yeargin’s journey from Hiram Hill to the Mayor’s Office in Green, Ohio, is marked by leadership, perseverance, and a passion for community. A 1993 graduate majoring in English and business management, Rocco was drawn to Hiram for its liberal arts foundation and picturesque campus—a place that would deeply shape his worldview and values.
As a student, Rocco embraced campus life with energy. He competed in track, contributed to the college newspaper, and reveled in intramural sports, even leading his teams to college championships in softball and flag football. He recalls the camaraderie of mud diving with his Whitcomb hall mates and biking through the countryside with his then-girlfriend, who later became his wife.
“The library staff became like a second family,” he said. “I also benefitted greatly from the incredible English Department faculty. I loved having class in Bonney Castle. “
After graduating from Hiram, Rocco earned a JD from the University of Akron School of Law. He spent the next 25 years as an attorney advocating for consumer rights and working in the areas of estate planning and probate. In 2003, his law firm was recognized by the National Association of Consumer Advocates as the Law Firm of the Year.
Professionally, Rocco has dedicated himself to public service. After serving two terms on Green City Council, he was elected Mayor in 2023. As mayor, one of his biggest goals for Green is to create and increase outdoor mobility and connectivity with the community. One of the larger projects Rocco has been responsible for as mayor was the installation of an adaptive and ADA-compliant youth multi-purpose sports field. Opened in spring 2025, the sports field allows young special needs athletes to enjoy the games of baseball, softball, soccer, and more with their community. Personally, his drive hasn’t slowed either, placing 4th in the 400m and 6th in the 200m at the 2022 National Senior Games.
Hiram made my tastes more eclectic and taught me to listen with empathy, to question the status quo, and to be a lifelong learner.
To today’s Hiram students, he offers this advice: “Enjoy every moment of your education. Love it, it passes. Just slow down and enjoy the ride.”
