Student Academic Support

The Student Academic Support office is committed to helping students achieve intellectual excellence and learn social responsibility, by working with them to create personally rewarding goals and providing them with the tools and resources they may need to manage themselves and the demands of college life both inside and outside the classroom.
Student Academic Support serves and assists students through their academic careers at Hiram College by providing academic support via tutoring, student development courses and programs, providing academic recovery options, academic coaching, and more.
Academic Recovery
Hiram College knows that each student has strengths and areas for growth. Sometimes this means getting a chance to relearn or reinforce academic success skills after a semester that results in academic warning, probation, or suspension appeal.
Academic Recovery is exactly that: an opportunity to meet one-on-one with us to reflect, regroup, and focus on all of the factors influencing academic progress and academic barriers.
We will conduct a skills survey and other assessments that are available depending upon each student’s needs and skill sets to be enhanced. You will be well on your way to getting back on track and moving toward graduation.
The services highlighted below will be a big part of how Academic Recovery transpires for our Hiram student:
TUTORING
Drop-In Tutoring: Drop-in tutoring is offered throughout the 12-week in the Library. Students can utilize this time to ask questions or receive assistance with course material and study skills. Drop-in hours may vary by course.
1-on-1 Tutoring: Students who need tutoring during the 3-week, outside of the drop-in times, or cannot make the drop-in times, are able to request a 1-on-1 tutor. 1-on-1 tutoring is available for ALL students who are taking courses at Hiram College. These services can take place in person or via Zoom.

ACADEMIC COACHING & STUDENT SUCCESS PROGRAMMING
Students have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a professional staff member to develop and refine their academic success skills, including time management, note-taking, studying, goal setting, organization, test-taking, and more; and create a personal academic success plan to help them reach their full potential, both inside and outside the classroom. Please complete the Student Academic Support Referral Form if you would like to request services for yourself or as a faculty member on a student’s behalf.
