Networking Made Easy

The Career Center utilizes Handshake, the number one way college students find jobs. Handshake helps students get expert help from our Office and other expert resources, connect with employers, get discovered, and get hired for internships and jobs.

Customize your Handshake profile to highlight your personality. Students can add achievements, resumes, portfolios, experience, clubs, and more to personalize their profile. Employers are actively searching for students on Handshake, which means standing out is key.

Some other tips to personalize your profile:

  • Add key courses you’ve taken
  • Update job preferences
  • Add relevant skills
  • Save jobs you’re interested in
  • Follow employers

Handshake allows students to find on- and off- campus internship and job opportunities. Filter by location or industry to narrow down your search. Alumni can also utilize handshake to post jobs and search specifically for Hiram College students.

Connect With Employers

Want to learn more about a career field before applying for internships? Looking to network but not sure where to start? Handshake allows you to message employers, make connections, and simplify the networking process.

When looking at job postings, you have the option to directly message the employer. Introduce yourself, ask questions, or set yourself apart! This is your chance to shine.

Ever heard of a coffee chat? Book an informal 15-minute one-on-one conversation with an employer to learn more about a specific role, industry, or company. This is a great informal way to learn more about your interests and ask questions pertaining to your career goals.

Handshake is a great resource to find career fairs and events both on our campus and in the surrounding area. Check out the “events” page to find what works for you.
