Andrew J. “Andy” Hopkins, 18 years old of Champion, Ohio, died Monday, March 13, 2006 in Metro Health Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio after a brave battle to recover from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born September 28, 1987 in Marietta, Ohio, the son of Reverend Kenneth and Robin Hopkins, Jr.

Andy was a member of Champion Christian Church where he was actively involved in educational, youth, mission, worship and musical ministries. He served as an Acolyte and Youth Diaconate. In his senior year Andy was elected Phyo Camp Boy Co-President by his peers. Since the age of 16 he served as a Counselor-in Training at Partnership Camp for third through fifth grade youths.

A 2005 honor graduate of Champion High School, Andy was a member of the National Honor Society, Ski Club and Jazz Band. A former Vice President of the Band, Andy received the 2005 “Semper Fidelis” award for musical excellence in recognition of his diligence, dedication and musical excellence as a performing high school bandsman and soloist. During his junior and senior years Andy provided lessons in alto saxophone to fifth and sixth grade students.

Andy continued his love of music as a freshman at Hiram College playing in both the Concert and Jazz bands. Majoring in Physics, he was on the Dean’s List with a 3.9 GPA after his first semester.  Andy enjoyed creating PowerPoint presentations for contemporary songs that touched his heart, reading, drawing, painting and getting together with his friends to play X-Box.
