Parking on Campus


Visit the Permit Store to purchase a permit, pay a parking ticket and update your information.

Parking information

Hiram College is fortunate to have many on-campus areas for parking, as well as spots around the Hiram community. Students must have a parking permit and display it in their vehicle at all times.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • All students using a vehicle on campus are required to purchase a parking permit.
  • Permits must be placed in the lower left-hand corner of the driver-side window.
  • Students are responsible for knowing which lots they are permitted to park in.

Guest parking passes are only valid during the date(s) indicated on the pass and cannot be issued to current students. Students with overnight guests should register each guest for a parking pass in advance. Guests of the Athletic Department or the Admission Department may obtain a visitor pass through each office.

Cost

Passes are $3 per day and may be purchased at the Campus Safety Office (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) or the Welcome Center (5 p.m.-close).

Cost

Parking fines are $15 and must be paid within 14 calendar days of the issue date (including the date the ticket was issued). If a ticket is not paid or appealed within 14 days, an additional $25 fine will be added to the total cost of the citation.

Paying a Ticket

Tickets may be paid with a major credit/debit card through the Permit Store or with cash in the Campus Safety Office. Unpaid tickets will be placed on your student account at the end of each semester.

Appealing a Ticket

After the ticket is processed, which can take up to 24 hours, an appeal may be submitted through the Permit Store. Appeals must be received within 14 days of the original citation. All decisions are final.

The following are NOT valid reasons for appealing a parking violation:

  • having the wrong permit for the space used (townhouse tenants)
  • failure to read parking signs
  • failure to display a parking permit
  • failure to obtain a temporary permit
  • parking in restricted areas
Towing

Hiram College reserves the right to tow a vehicle at the owner’s expense if it:

  • impedes college activity
  • hinders access to roadways, walkways or buildings
  • causes a safety concern
  • is parked in an area or in a manner that can damage campus grounds
  • becomes inoperable
  • appears to be abandoned
  • is parked in a tow-away zone
  • belongs to a student whose parking privileges have been revoked

Cost

Residential Permits: $65.95 per year

Commuter/PGS/CCP Permits: $15.95 per year

Temporary Permits

After you successfully register online and your permit is approved, you will need to print and display the temporary permit on your vehicle’s dashboard until you receive your permanent one.

If you do not have access to a computer/printer, you can pick up your temporary permit at the Campus Safety Office. The temporary permit is only valid for ten calendar days from the purchase date, and it must be discarded once your permanent permit is received.

Picking up Your Permit

Residential students, Commuter, Professional and Graduate Studies, and College Credit Plus will receive a notification via Hiram email when their permit is ready. Students should then bring their Hiram ID to the campus safety office to pick up their permit during business hours.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Residential students or Commuter students with permits are not allowed to park in the Townhouse Parking Lot or Townhouse Visitor Parking Lot. You must park at the Gelbke Lot or Winrock Lot.

Residential/Townhouse/Commuter/PGS/CCP students are not considered “visitors”. They are not permitted to park in any visitor lots, including 90-minute parking spaces, the Townhouse Visitor Lot, Coleman Sports Center lots, Kennedy Center Visitor Lot, Admission Visitor Spots, etc.

Student-athlete/Coleman Center student workers, student coaches, residential students, Townhouse tenants, College Credit Plus students, Weekend College students, or commuters are not permitted to park in areas designated for faculty/staff and visitors in front of Coleman Center.

Cost

Permits are free but you must register your vehicle through the Permit Store after getting a numbered parking assignment from Residence Life & Commuter Services.

Picking up Your Permit

After you successfully register online and your permit is approved, you will receive a notification via Hiram email when your permit is ready. You should then bring your Hiram ID with you to the Campus Safety Office during business hours to pick up your permit.

Parking Location

You must park in the Townhouse Lot and only in your designated parking space. Any tenant who parks in other lots will be ticketed. You are permitted to park on 305 Parking Lot Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. The permit must be displayed.

Townhouse Visitors

Townhouse visitors bringing a car need to get a visitor parking pass from the Campus Safety Office. The visitor may park in the space assigned to the resident or one of the visitor spaces. In the event it’s not be possible to sign out a visitor parking pass, 90-minute spaces are available between the tennis courts and East Hall.  Visitors may also park on the upper campus on the street near Hinsdale, Booth-Centennial, the Quad, and The Hill. Those who park on the street will need to observe the Hiram Village parking ordinances. See information on overnight guest parking for additional information.

Alternative Vehicle

Townhouse Student with a valid permit bringing an alternative vehicle on campus must pick up a temporary permit at the Campus Safety Office during normal business hours. A free temporary ID will be issued based on the current information. The vehicle makes, model, and license plate number are required to complete the application. Temporary permits are only valid for the date(s) listed. Campus Safety will not issue any temporary permits without completed information.

Restricted Areas

Townhouse students are not considered “visitors” and are not permitted to park in any visitor lots including 90-minute parking spaces, Admission Visitor lots, Townhouse Visitor Lot, Coleman Sports Center lots, Kennedy Center Visitor Lot, etc.

Student-athlete/Coleman Center student workers, student coaches, residential students, Townhouse tenants, College Credit Plus students, Weekend College students, or commuters are not permitted to park in areas designated for faculty/staff and visitors in the front of Coleman Center.

Note:

If you move out from the townhouse you must surrender your permit and you must obtain a different permit.
