Welcome, Terriers!
We are looking forward to beginning the new academic year and are excited for our students to be on campus. The summer at Hiram has been quite busy with several visiting leadership groups, summer camps, construction of our new pickleball courts, renovation of the lower level Kennedy Center, new student orientation, and more! However, nothing is more exciting than having all of our new and returning Terriers back on the Hill! We encourage you to review your respective welcome letter above to learn more.

pre-arrival CHECKLIST
ARE YOU CLEARED TO ATTEND?
When arriving at Hiram, you must be cleared through all administrative offices. To confirm that you are cleared to attend, check your online status early and often via the Student Portal. You may be asked to log in using your Hiram credentials. If you have outstanding tasks to complete, they will be outlined on the “Are You Cleared to Attend?” page. Contact each respective office for additional support should your questions not be answered below.
To be considered cleared through the Office of the Registrar, all Hiram students must be registered for classes.
FULL-TIME STATUS: To be considered full-time, you should have minimum of 12 semester hours in the 12 and 3 week combined. However, to make satisfactory progress towards graduation, it is recommended that you have at least 15 hours per 12/3 term. Also, unless otherwise approved by the Associate Academic Dean, each semester you are required to enroll in one course in the 3-week that is 3-4 credits.
DROPPING COURSES: Please be aware that dropping below full-time (12 semester hours) before arriving on campus can affect your “Am I Cleared to Attend” status and, therefore, your ability to move in, participate in athletics, and may have an adverse effect on your student bill.

NEW STUDENTS: The Registrar’s Office must receive your final high school transcripts which must include your date of graduation. For further assistance, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 330.569.5210 or registrar@hiram.edu .
To be considered cleared through the Office of Student Financial Services, students must complete both of the following requirements:
- Make satisfactory payment arrangements toward their fall balance.
- Submit all outstanding financial aid requirements.

NEW STUDENTS: To be considered cleared through the Health Center, all new students must have submitted their health forms as part of the pre-Orientation process on Moodle. To finish this task, please complete the Health Record and Consent Form.

CONTRACTS: In order to be cleared through the Office of Residence Life and Commuter Services, all students must have an active 2023 – 2024 residential or commuter student housing contract on file through eRezLife before arriving to campus. If you have yet to complete a contract, please contact the office.
ASSIGNMENTS: To access your housing assignment and roommate information, visit eRezLife. Log-in using your Hiram account credentials (without the @hiram.edu). Once logged in, click the “Profile” menu on the left panel. Also on the left panel, you should see a drop down menu titled “Housing Application.” Click this menu to view your residence hall name, room number, and any applicable roommate contact information. You are encouraged to make contact with your roommate to plan who is going to bring what to campus.

EARLY ARRIVAL (Starting August 21): An approved early arrival application is required for any new student arriving between August 21 – August 24, and any returning student arriving between August 21 – August 26 who is not a part of a sponsored early arrival group. Early arrival is billed at $50 per night. No early arrival application is required for new students arriving on August 25.

STARTING AUGUST 7: A variety of early arrival groups (also known as the “first wave”) begin arriving to campus as early as August 7. Early arrival groups (typically affiliated with an athletic team or sponsoring office) are encouraged to follow the arrival instructions provided by their respective coaches and supervisors.
STARTING AUGUST 21: An approved early arrival application is required for any new student arriving between August 21 – August 24, and any returning student arriving between August 21 – August 26 who is not a part of a sponsored early arrival group. Early arrival is billed at $50 per night.
You must be cleared to attend prior to arrival on campus.

Please note: All arrival traffic will be routed to the check-in tent located at the intersection of Dean and Brown Streets. To accommodate arrival traffic, some roads may be closed or temporarily one-way.
- Those traveling from 700 South: Turn right at the traffic light (Wakefield Rd./St. Rt. 82). Take first right onto Hayden Street.
- Those traveling from St. Rt. 82: Turn left just before the traffic light at the Hiram Post Office onto Hayden Street.
- Those traveling from Rt. 305: Just after the traffic light, turn right onto Hayden Street.
The Hiram Post Office is visibly located on the corner of Wakefield Road and Hayden Street. Once on Hayden Street, continue on the winding road to the first stop sign. After the stop sign, continue straight until the road turns into Dean Street. The check-in tent will be on your right.
Drive to the staffed area. As a gentle reminder, stay in your vehicle. The staff will ensure that you are cleared to arrive. If you have any unfinished business and holds on your student account, you will be asked to park and directed to the appropriate office before being permitted to pick up your keys and student ID. Once clearance is granted, you will be provided a key packet and guided to your residence hall.
ARRIVAL TIMES:
9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – Even room numbers
10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Odd room numbers

HAPPI PLACE CANNED SOUP DRIVE: To help ensure our campus community has a healthy start free of food insecurity, you are encouraged to bring a can of soup to donate to our campus food pantry, the AmeriCorps HAPPI Place. Have your soup can handy when you arrive to the check-in tent.
RESIDENCE HALL UNLOAD: You will be directed to your residence hall for unloading. We ask that the driver remain in their vehicle at all times. Members of our football team will assist you in unloading your vehicle and carrying your belongings up to your room.
PARKING: Once unloaded, drivers will be directed down the hill to park in a campus lot. Shuttles will regularly bring students and visitors up the hill to return to the residence halls.
LUNCH: New students and their supporters are welcome to enjoy lunch on us at the Hiram Dining Hall between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. No ticket required.
FIRST DAYS CHECK-IN: All new residential students are required to report to the Hinsdale Hall Arch for First Days check-in no later than 3:00 p.m. Students will process from Hinsdale Hall to Hayden Auditorium for the Matriculation Convocation, the formal welcome to the College. Be sure to review the full First Days schedule.
MATRICULATION CONVOCATION: This session is required for all new students. Supporters are welcome to attend. New students must report for check-in to the Hinsdale Hall Arch by 3:00 p.m. The ceremony starts at 4:00 p.m. in Hayden Auditorium located in Bates Hall, 11715 Garfield Rd. Those who are unable to attend in person may watch the livestream on Facebook. Group membership is required.
BOOKSTORE: The Bookstore, located in the Kennedy Center, will be open for business and bedding bundle pickup from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
LUNCH: New students and their supporters are welcome to enjoy an optional lunch on us at the Hiram Dining Hall between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. No ticket required.
CHECK-IN: New commuter students should report to the Hinsdale Hall Arch for First Days check-in by 2:00 p.m. Upon arrival, you will receive your welcome bag, First Days schedule, student ID card, and nametag. Be sure to review the full First Days schedule which notes events that are required for all new students.
Note: If you have any unfinished business and holds on your student account, you will be directed to the appropriate office before being permitted to check-in for First Days. Review the clearance procedures at the top of the page for further information.
PARKING: Free parking is available on Village streets, or you may park in a designated campus lot. To learn more about parking privileges and commuter student parking, visit our website.
PARKING PERMITS: Parking passes ordered through The Permit Store may be obtained from the Office of Campus Safety located on the second floor of the Kennedy Center until 5:00 p.m.
All remaining returning students may arrive to campus no earlier than Sunday, August 27. Before returning, please ensure you are cleared to attend per the instructions above.
Returning students may pick up their keys from the Residence Life and Commuter Services Office located in Bates Hall between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Once keys are distributed, you may move into your assigned residence hall.
Campus parking enforcement will begin on Monday, August 28. Please ensure your vehicle has a proper permit displayed and you are parked in an approved lot. Note: Overnight street parking is only available on Friday and Saturday nights. Vehicles must be moved off Village streets, Sunday – Friday morning between 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Students approved to arrive early will have their meals coordinated by their sponsoring athletic team, department, employer, or respective leadership group. Summer residents who have leftover meals from their summer meal plans may use their balance at the dining hall through brunch on Sunday, August 27.

NEW STUDENTS: Complementary meals are provided as part of the First Days schedule beginning with dinner on Friday, August 25. Please carry your Hiram student ID card at all times.
RETURNING STUDENTS: Your academic-year meal plan will officially activate on Sunday, August 27 at the dinner meal from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Regular dining hours will begin on Monday, August 28. For further information, please visit AVI Fresh.
All Hiram students taking in-person classes and those utilizing a meal plan must have a Hiram student ID card. Students are provided 24/7 access to their own residence hall with their Hiram ID. Card readers are located near the main entrance of each building.
NEW STUDENTS: Your student ID card will be provided by your early arrival coordinator, or included within your key packet at the time of check-in. Virtual Orientation participants who did not submit their student ID photo form must visit the Office of Campus Safety on the second floor of the Kennedy Center to have their photo taken in order for an ID card to be printed.
RETURNING STUDENTS: Should you have lost of misplaced your student ID, please visit the Office of Campus Safety during regular business hours for a replacement.

NEW STUDENT ARRIVAL DAY PARKING: Due to the volume of traffic on Friday, August 25, street parking will be limited. Once unloaded, new students and their supporters will be escorted down the hill to park in a campus lot. Shuttles will regularly bring students and visitors up the hill to return to the residence halls.
CAMPUS PARKING: Students who have purchased a parking permit may park in campus lots 24 hours a day. To learn more about purchasing a parking pass and the rules and regulations of our parking lots, visit the Campus Safety webpage.
PARKING PERMITS: Parking passes ordered through The Permit Store may be obtained from the Office of Campus Safety located on the second floor of the Kennedy Center during normal business hours. Please print a temporary permit to display on your dashboard until your permanent permit arrives. Note: Temporary permits expire 10 days after purchase. Ticketing will begin on Monday, August 28.
VILLAGE PARKING: Free parking on Village streets is available between the hours of 6:00 am – 2:00 a.m. daily, Sunday through Friday. Overnight street parking is available on Friday and Saturday nights only. No permit required.

First Days

All new students at Hiram College are required to attend First Days! An immersive experience to all things Hiram, First Days allows first-year and transfer students to explore their on-campus home, connect with other new students, meet professors and staff, and engage with critical tools and resources to be successful.
