I am Hiram because Hiram is part of my journey.
Sometimes you think your mind is made up and your journey is paved. When I began my college journey, I was sure that I would graduate from the same college I started at. Initially, I wanted to be part of everything: football, baseball, student government, performing arts and other activities. But after growing as a student, I recognized that I needed more. In order for me to indulge in the best college experience, I would have to continue my search for the perfect one. I then found Hiram.
I was unsure of what to expect at Hiram, as my previous college was eight times the size. Once on campus, I fell in love with the close knit atmosphere and the openness of the students. Hiram gave me the opportunity to focus on academics, and to participate in athletics. My coaches motivate me to try new things, join clubs, study abroad, and most importantly, excel in the classroom. They have also taught me life lessons that will remain with me beyond my time on the hill. After graduating, I want to become a lawyer and follow my passion for community engagement. If it weren’t for Hiram, I don’t think I would have gained the courage to step outside of the box, but now I know I am prepared.
For me, big things come in little packages. Your journey doesn’t always end where it begins. Hiram has taught me to not be afraid of change, to push myself, and to draw outside the lines. Transferring here is one of the best choices I’ve ever made.
