Students will raise awareness about poverty through a World Hunger Banquet on Jan. 22, 2014.

The event, sponsored by KCPB, runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will take place in Dix Dining Hall of the Kennedy Center.

As students dine together, they will make a powerful statement: As they enter, they will receive a class specification: upper, middle or lower. The upper class will sit at a table and be served a full course meal; the middle class will receive a smaller meal while sitting at a table; the lower class will receive a bowl of rice and be asked to sit on the floor.

“It’s a very powerful statement we, as KCPB and the Hiram community, would like to show,” said Jessica Bolanz ’14, a sociology major and KCPB officer. “People will be able to take a new knowledge of the struggles people go through, and it will combat some of the unawareness people may have regarding poverty.”
