Hiram College

The Hiram College swimming and diving teams competed against Defiance College and Franciscan University in non-conference action at Alumni Memorial Pool.  The Terrier women defeated both the Yellow Jackets and Barons in a tri-meet, while the men defeated Defiance in dual meet action.

The Hiram women defeated Defiance, 163-45, and also beat Franciscan by the score of 127-97.  Individually, the Terriers had five event winners and one mult-event winner in sophomore Rachel Patten (Castalia/Margaretta).  Patten touched the wall first in both the 800-meter freestyle (10:19.77) and the 400-meter free (5:00.83).  Joining Patten in the winner’s circle was junior Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic) who won the 50-meter free (29.48 seconds).  Fellow junior Becca Wright (New Carlisle/Northwestern Local) captured the 100-meter butterfly (1:19.50) and junior Carly Daniels (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson) posted a winning time in the 100-meter free (1:04.65).  The women also recorded a winning time in the 200-meter free relay.  The team of Buckley, freshman Emily Kelly (North Royalton), Wright and Daniels recorded a combined time of 2:02.84 to take top honors.

The men defeated Defiance by the final of 107-76.  Hiram had seven individual event winners and three multi-event winners.  Senior Job Fields (Chillicothe) won both the 800-meter free (9:52.70) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:09.47) events.  Sophomore Mark Stanke (Dover) had winning times in both the 50-meter free (26.19 seconds) and the 100-meter free (59.68).  Rounding out the multi-event winners was sophomore Danny Essel (Cleveland/Euclid) who won both the 200-meter IM (2:35.88) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.41).  Also posting a winning time was senior Ryan Astalos (Bainbridge/Kenston) who finished first in the 200-meter free with a time of 2:16.37.  The men also had a winning relay.  The team of Fields, Essel, Astalos and Stanke had a winning time of 2:05.42 in the 200-meter medley relay.

The Hiram swim teams will be idle until Saturday, Dec. 7 when the Terriers travel to Bethany, W.Va. for a non-conference dual meet against Bethany College.  The first event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
