PITTSBURGH, PA. — The Hiram College women’s swimming and diving teams lost a tri-match against Chatham (Pa.) University and Grove City (Pa.) College, 147-141 and 166-121, while the Terrier men were defeated by Grove City in a non-conference dual meet, 123-90, today (Saturday, Dec. 10) on the campus of Chatham in Pittsburgh, Pa. Following today’s outcomes, the women are now 4-4 overall and the men are 2-4 overall for the season.
The women had two individual event winners in senior Caitlin McCurley (Apple Valley/Granite Hills) and freshman Rachel Buckley (Amherst/Elyria Catholic). McCurley touched the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:51.83 and Buckley posted the top overall time in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:07.33. McCurley also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:33.18) and Buckley also recorded a second-place finish in the 50-yard back (31.22 seconds). Other top finishes of note was a second-place finish by freshman Becca Wright (New Carlisle/Northwestern Local) in the 50-yard butterfly (30.69 seconds) and a third-place showing by freshman Samantha Polmanteer (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.27).
The men captured one individual event in the 200-yard IM by sophomore Job Fields (Chillicothe) who swam a time of 2:13.66, winning the event by 10 one-hundredths of a second. Fields also recorded a top-three finish in the 1000-yard free in which he touched the wall in second place in a time of 11:01.04.
The Hiram swim teams will be idle until Friday, Jan. 13 when the Terriers host The College of Wooster in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener at Alumni Memorial Pool. The first event will begin at 6 p.m.
