ALLIANCE, OHIO — For the second straight game, the Hiram College women’s soccer team battled its opponent to a tie as the Terriers tied the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders, 1-1, in double overtime today (Tuesday, Sept. 28) in a non-conference game in Alliance. [Game Stats]
Following today’s game, the Terriers are now 4-5-2 overall and the Purple Raiders are now 2-6-3 overall for the season.
Both goals scored in the game would come in the first half with Hiram striking first with a goal by senior two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference forward Claire Conner (Aurora) at the 14:14 minute mark with an assist from freshman midifelder Alaina Giesen (Medina/Buckeye). The goal was Conner’s fourth of the season. Minutes later, Mount Union evened the score at 1-1 with a goal by Jackie Lowdermilk during the 18th minute.
The teams recorded their share of shots during the remainder of the game, but neither team could tally the game-winner as the score remained even at a goal apiece after 110 minutes of playing time, resulting in the 1-1 tie.
In goal for Hiram, senior Emily Bristol (Worcester, N.Y./Worcester Central) started the game and played 79:49 minutes allowing one goal and tallying five saves. Sophomore Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) played the final 30:11 giving up no goals and had two saves.
Hiram will travel to Wooster on Saturday, Oct. 2 for a matchup against The College of Wooster in the NCAC opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
