The Hiram College women’s soccer team netted its first North Coast Athletic Conference win of the season with a 1-0 shutout against Oberlin College at Charles A. Henry Field.
Hiram (8-4, 1-2 NCAC) scored the only goal of the first half, and what turned out to be the only goal of the game, at the 19:47 minute mark with an unassisted goal from All-NCAC junior Kelsey Martin (Austintown/Fitch) giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, Oberlin (4-8, 0-2 NCAC) recorded just one shot in the final 45 minutes as solid defense by Hiram kept the Yeowomen from mounting any offensive attack, preserving the 1-0 shutout victory.
In goal for the Terriers, sophomore Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) picked up her seventh win of the season and four shutout of the year, to improve to 7-4 overall. In 90 minutes, she allowed no goals and made one save.
Hiram will host The College of Wooster in a NCAC game on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
