Following tonight’s game, the Terriers drop to 3-12-2 overall and 0-6-1 in the NCAC. The Ladies improve to 11-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 NCAC.
Kenyon scored all three of its goals in the first half, beginning with the Ladies first goal just 6:38 into the game when Meg Murphy found the back of the net off on a corner kick that deflected off the Hiram goalkeeper and into the net to make the score 1-0. The Ladies struck again during the 17th minute with a goal from Caddie Durrett and an assist from Virginia Rushton to increase the margin to 2-0. Shortly after the Durrett goal, Murphy tallied her second score of the game at the 20:01 mark with an assist from Becca Romaine to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Neither team would score the remainder of the half as Kenyon led 3-0 at the break.
In the second half, Hiram was held to just two shots in the period and had one shot that appeared to get past the Kenyon netminder in the final seconds of the game, but the goal was ruled a “no goal,” keeping the Terriers scoreless as Kenyon claimed a 3-0 shutout.
In goal for Hiram, junior Katie Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) started the game and played the first half allowing three goals and had five saves. Valaitis was credited with the loss which drops her to 2-6 overall for the season. Freshman Lisa Silvestro (London, Ont./St. Thomas Aquinas) played the second half and gave up no goals while making nine saves.
Hiram will wrap-up the 2011 season on Saturday, Oct. 29 when the Terriers travel to Granville for a NCAC matchup against Denison University. The game will be part of a soccer doubleheader with the Hiram men’s team. The women will take on the Big Red at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.
