HANOVER, IND. — The Hiram College women’s soccer team was defeated by Hanover College, 2-0, this afternoon (Saturday, Sept. 10) in a non-conference game in Hanover, Ind. [Game Stats]
Following today’s outcome, the Terriers are now 2-1 overall and the Panthers improve to 4-0 overall for the season.
Hanover got on the board early in the first half with the game’s first goal at the 10:25 minute mark off the foot of Ashley Turner for a 1-0 edge. Neither team would score the remainder of the period as the Panthers maintained their one-goal edge at the break.
In the second half, Hanover added an insurance goal during the 55th minute with an unassisted score from Christa Hurak to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. The two goal margin would be all that Hanover would need as the Panthers held the Terriers scoreless the remainder of the game to claim a 2-0 shutout victory.
Junior Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) got the start and played the first half allowing one goal and made one save. She would also suffer the loss and falls to 1-1 overall for the season. Freshman Lisa Silvestro (London, Ont./St. Thomas Aquinas) played the final 45 minutes and gave up one goal while making five saves.
Hiram will be in action again tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 11) when it travels to Crestview Hills, Ky. to take on Thomas More College in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
