Freshman Allie Glatt (Cincinnati/Seton) scored her first collegiate goal which also turned out to be the game-winner as the Hiram College women’s soccer team defeated D’Youville (N.Y.) College, 1-0, in overtime in Buffalo, N.Y.
Both teams combined for 16 shots in the 90 minutes of regulation, but neither team found the back of the net keeping the game scoreless and sending the game into overtime.
In the first overtime period Glatt put Hiram (1-0) on the board on a free kick that went in the net just under the cross bar at the 6:09 minute mark of the overtime period to give the Terriers a 1-0 win in the season opener.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) played all 96:09 to claim her first victory of the season after stopping five shots. The win is also her first shutout of the season.
Hiram will travel to Cresson, Pa. for a non-conference game against Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
