ERIE, PA. — The Hiram College women’s soccer team was defeated by Penn State-Behrend, 6-0, today (Saturday, Sept. 4) on the first day of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by PSU-Behrend in Erie, Pa. [Game Stats]
Following today’s game, the Terriers are now 1-1 overall, while the Lions improve to 2-0 overall for the season.
Behrend took control of the game with a pair of goals in the first half, both scored by Julia Schroeck. She recorded her first goal at the 13:26 minute mark and followed with her second marker during the 21st minute as the Lions had a 2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Behrend continued the scoring with four goals beginning with a score by Caitlyn Elser at the 51:59 mark, increasing the margin to 3-0. Nearing the end of the period, Dana Saunders found the back of the net during the 78th minute to increase the lead to 4-0. The Lions tallied their final two scores of the game off the foot of Lindsey Steinsdoerfer at the 84:31 mark and on an own goal early in the 88th minute en route to the 6-0 shutout.
In net, senior Emily Bristol (Worcester, N.Y./Worcester Central) played all 90 minutes, but suffered her first loss of the season and is now 1-1 overall. She allowed six goals and made four saves.
Hiram will conclude the tournament tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 5) against Moravian (Pa.) College. The game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in Erie, Pa.
