GAMBIER, OHIO — The Hiram College women’s soccer team was defeated by Kenyon College, 1-0, in the North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season finale in Gambier.
Kenyon (7-7-2, 3-3-1 NCAC) outshot Hiram (4-11-2, 1-7 NCAC), 43-2, for the game and 22-0 in the first half alone, but the Terriers held the Ladies scoreless for the first 45 minutes for a 0-0 tie at halftime.
The lone goal of the game would come during the 65th minute on a penalty kick for Kenyon. Becca Romaine capitalized on the opportunity to break the scoreless tie and put the Ladies ahead, 1-0. Hiram could not get one of its two shots in the period past the Kenyon netminder which resulted in the 1-0 loss.
In net for Hiram, senior Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) played all 90 minutes and allowed the lone goal while making 17 saves. She is now 2-6-2 overall for the season following the loss.
Hiram will conclude the 2012 season on Saturday, Oct. 27 when the Terriers host St. John (N.Y.) Fisher. It will be senior day with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
