HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College women’s soccer team was shut out by Wittenberg University, 3-0, this afternoon (Saturday, Oct. 8) in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at the Charles A. Henry Field. [Game Stats]
With the loss, the Terriers have dropped five straight and are now 3-8-1 overall and 0-3 in the NCAC. The Tigers improve to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1 NCAC.
Wittenberg tallied the only score in the first half off the foot of Taylor Goss on an unassisted goal at the 12:01 minute mark, giving the Tigers a 1-0 edge at the intermission.
In the second half, Wittenberg added to its lead with two goals by Cassie Howell, beginning with her first goal during the 50th minute to make the score 2-0. Howell found the empty net a second time later in the period at the 72:50 mark to end the scoring and secure a 3-0 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Lisa Silvestro (London, Ont./St. Thomas Aquinas) started the game and played the first half, but suffered the loss and is now 1-5-1 overall for the season. She allowed one goal and made two saves. Junior Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) came on to play the second half allowing two goals and posted two saves.
Hiram will travel to Meadville, Pa. for a NCAC contest against Allegheny College on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
