SPRINGFIELD, OHIO — The Hiram College women’s soccer team fell to Wittenberg University, 2-1, today (Saturday, Oct. 9) in a North Coast Athletic Conference game in Springfield. [Game Stats]
With the loss, the Terriers drop to 4-8-2 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC. The Tigers improve to 10-2-1 overall and 2-0 NCAC.
Wittenberg scored the only goal of the first half at the 8:31 minute mark thanks to a score by Kailey Striebel that gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Hiram evened the score at 1-1 at the 51:00 mark with a goal from senior three-time All-NCAC defender Madison Sepp (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and an assist from senior defenseman/midfielder Melissa Sharpe (Eastlake/Willoughby South). But Wittenberg tallied what would be the game-winning goal just over the midway point of the period with a goal from Sheryl Chambers as the Tigers went on to win by the final of 2-1.
In goal for Hiram, senior Emily Bristol (Worcester, N.Y./Worcester Central) played all 90 minutes, but suffered the loss and is now 4-7-2 overall for the season. She allowed two goals and made eight saves.
Hiram will host Allegheny (Pa.) College on Tuesday, Oct. 12 in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at the Hiram Soccer Complex. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
