HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram Terriers Women’s Soccer team lost a 3-2 heartbreaker in overtime to the Heidelberg Student Princes in a non-conference game Thursday night (September 23,2010) at the Hiram Soccer Complex. [game stats]
Kristen Schneider’s unassisted goal 4:22 into overtime cinched the victory for the Student Princes who boosted their record to 6-2 on the season. With the loss, Hiram fell a game under .500 with a 4-5 record.
The Terriers drew first blood when sophmore Ernestina Zappa (Brooklyn/ Laurel) scored her second goal of the season at the 15:17 mark aided by Kendra Dean’s (Chesterland/West Geauga) fifth assist of the season. The lead did not last as Heidelberg evened up the game on an Aleyesa Evans goal at 26:59 to make the score 1-1.
Heidelberg would take a 2-1 second half lead at the 69:54 minute mark when Schneider scored the first of her two goals on a rebound off the cross bar past Hiram goalie Emily Bristol (Worcester, N.Y./ Worcester Central) giving Heidelberg the lead at 2-1. The Terriers jumped right back in with a goal of their own less than a minute later when Melissa Sharpe (Eastlake/ Willoughby South) kicked in a rebound off the Heidelberg goalie at 70:38 to knot the game at 2-2. For Sharpe the goal was her second of the season.
Bristol played all 94 plus minutes of the game, but fell to 4-4 on the year. Bristol allowed three goals of the seven shots on goal she faced.
iram will travel to Bethany, W.Va. to start a five game road trip on Saturday, September 25th. The women will take on the Bethany Bison at 1 p.m.
