HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College women’s soccer team fell short of Baldwin-Wallace College, 3-2, in overtime tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 15) in a non-conference matchup at the Hiram Soccer Complex. [Game Stats]
Following tonight’s game, the Terriers drop to 3-3 overall and the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-3 overall for the season.
Hiram took the early lead in the first half with a goal from senior midfielder Kendra Dean (Chesterland/West Geauga)that was set up by junior All-North Coast Athletic Conference midfielder/forward Caitlin Fortson (Ravenna) at the 14:09 minute mark. B-W would tally the next two goals beginning with a score during the 32nd minute to even the score at 1-1. The Yellow Jackets then took the lead at the 40:32 mark to have a 2-1 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Terriers would tie the score at 2-2 with a marker from senior three-time All-NCAC defender Madison Sepp (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) at the 47:20 mark. Dean would be credited with an assist, her team-leading fourth assist of the season. Neither team could knotch the game-winner during the remainder of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
Three minutes into the overtime period, B-W’s Lindsay Mikula recorded the game-winning score with an unassisted goal to give the Yellow Jackets the 3-2 victory.
In goal for Hiram, senior Emily Bristol (Worcester, N.Y./Worcester Central) played all 93 minutes and now has a 3-3 overall record. She allowed three goals and made three saves.
Hiram will host Wilmington College on Saturday, Sept. 18 as part of a soccer doubleheader at the Hiram Soccer Complex. The women will take on the Quakers at 1 p.m. followed by the Terrier men against Calvin (Mich.) College at 3 p.m.
