MEADVILLE, PA. — The Hiram College women’s soccer team was defeated by Allegheny (Pa.) College, 2-0, tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 11) in a North Coast Athletic Conference game in Meadville, Pa. [Game Stats]
Following tonight’s game, the Terriers drop to 3-9-1 overall and 0-4 in the NCAC. The Gators improve to 8-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 NCAC.
Allegheny recorded the only goal in the first half off the foot of Emily Byers just before the end of the period at the 44:01 mark to give the Gators a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
The Gators scored an insurance run early in the second half from Katrina Gazsi during the 54th minute to extend the margin to 2-0. The two goals would be all that Allegheny needed as the Gators outshot Hiram, 24-2, in the game to go on to the 2-0 shutout.
Hiram junior goalkeeper Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) started the game and played the first half allowing one goal and had six saves. She was also credited with the loss and is now 2-4 overall for the season. Freshman Lisa Silvestro (London, Ont./St. Thomas Aquinas) came on to play in the second half, giving up a goal and tallying eight saves.
Hiram will host Oberlin College on Saturday, Oct. 15 in a NCAC matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
