The Hiram College women’s soccer team kicked off NCAC play with a 2-2 tie against DePauw (Ind.) on Saturday evening at Henry Field.
The Terriers are now 3-3-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in the NCAC, while the Tigers stand at 2-4-1, 0-0-1.
DePauw struck for goals in the 23rd and 33rd minute to open a 2-0 halftime lead.
But Hiram would rally in the second half, scoring twice to force overtime.
Sophomore Allie Glatt (Cincinnati/Seton) got Hiram on the board in the 52nd minute, when she controlled a ball and rocketed a shot from the top of the box into the upper left of the goal. The goal was Glatt’s team leading sixth of the season.
The Terriers would then tie the game in the 88th minute. Sophomore Alison Cowell (Bridgeton, Mo./Duchesne) was able to chase down a loose ball and beat a drawn out goalkeeper at the 87:58 mark to tie the game at 2-2. Sophomore Kristen Verel (Aurora) and Glatt picked up the assists on the play.
The Tigers had two chances in the second overtime to win the game, but junior goalie Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) denied both attempts to preserve the tie.
Reed finished the game with six saves and is now 3-3-1 on the season.
The Terriers outshot the Tigers 23-15, with Hiram also holding an 11-8 edge in shots on goal
Hiram has a quick turnaround and will return to action on Monday, with a road contest at non-conference foe Marietta at 4 p.m.
