The Hiram College women’s lacrosse team scored the final five goals of the game to post an 11-8 win against Olivet (Mich.) College led by sophomore JoLyn Grover‘s (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) four goals, all in the second half, in a non-conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
Hiram (3-3) got on the board first with a score at the 23:12 minute mark with a free-position goal by senior Michelle Bezek (Parma/Padua Franciscan). Olivet (0-4) came right back to even the game at 1-1 with a goal just over a minute later and took the lead at the 16:49 mark to make the score 2-1. The Terriers then rattled off four straight goals with three of those scores coming from sophomore Hannah Schaefer (Kent/Roosevelt) and the other goal coming from junior Morgan Rahman (Westlake/St. Joseph Academy) to make it a 5-2 game at the intermission.
In the second half, Olivet edged closer with a goal to begin the period, but Hiram responded with Grover’s first goal with 26:40 left to play. The Comets moved ahead on the scoreboard with five unanswered goals with the last one coming with 14:36 to go for an 8-6 advantage. The Terriers ended the game with five consecutive goals of their own with three coming off the stick of Grover. The other two Hiram goals were tallied by Rahman and freshman Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, Verm./Lamoille Union). The final goals would be all Hiram needed as the Terriers hung on to beat Olivet by the final of 11-8.
Grover led the Hiram offensive attack with her four goals for four points. Schaefer was second with three scores and Rahman was third with a pair of goals. Rounding out the high scorers was Osgood and Bezek with a goal each.
Sophomore Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played the entire game and picked up her third vicory of the seaon to improve to 3-3 overall. She made five saves in 13 shots faced.
Hiram is scheduled to host Walsh University in a non-conference game at Henry Field on Thursday, Mar. 27. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
