The Hiram College women’s lacrosse team suffered a 17-1 defeat by Allegheny (Pa.) College in a North Coast Athletic Conference game in Meadville, Pa.
Allegheny (14-1, 6-1 NCAC) scored all the points in the first half, beginning with its first goal at the 29:44 minute mark. The Gators went on to add nine more scores in the first 30 minutes to boast a 10-0 advantage at the intermission.
In the second half, Allegheny continued the scoring streak with six more goals before Hiram (3-12, 0-7 NCAC) ended the shutout with 5:35 left in the game when sophomore JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) scored her team-leading 25th goal of the season on a free-position shot to make the score 16-1. But the goal would come a bit too late as the Gators already had the game well in hand and added one more goal just before time expired to go on to the 17-1 final.
Hiram sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played the entire game in net for the Terriers and had seven saves. She is now 3-12 overall for the season with the loss.
Hiram will conclude the 2014 season on Saturday, Apr. 26 when the Terriers host Denison University in a NCAC matchup at Charles A. Henry Field. It will be senior day with the game set to begin at 1 p.m.
