Hiram College

Sophomore Hannah Schaefer (Kent/Roosevelt) scored four goals to help lead the Hiram College women’s lacrosse team past Wilmington College, 12-10, in a non-conference game in Wilmington.

The two teams traded goals throughout the first 20 minutes of the opening half with two of Hiram’s (1-3) scores coming from freshman Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, Verm./Lamoille Union) and the other goal was scored by junior Devonique Henderson (Streetsboro).  Following the Henderson goal, Wilmington (0-6) then recorded back-to-back scores to move ahead, 5-3, with 6:04 left in the half.  The Terriers got one of the goals back when Schaefer found the back of the net at the 4:23 minute mark.  The Quakers answered with two more scores, but Hiram would tally the final goal of the period on a free-position shot by sophomore JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) as Wilmington led at the break, 7-5.

Wilmington began the second half with a goal less than a minute in, but Hiram then went on a six-goal scoring run with the first three scores by Schaefer and goals from Henderson, Osgood and sophomoreRebecca Goetz (Buffalo, N.Y./Frontier) to give the Terriers an 11-8 advantage with 11:55 remaining in the game.  The Quakers scored two of the final three goals to end the game, with Hiram’s final score coming off the stick of Henderson, her third of the game, as the Terriers went on to claim the 12-10 victory.

Offensively, Hiram was led by Schaefer’s four goals, followed by Osgood and Henderson with three goals each.  Grover and Goetz rounded out the point scorers with each scoring a goal.

Sophomore Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played the entire game and picked up her first win of the season.  She made 11 saves in 21 shots faced.

Hiram is scheduled to host Olivet (Mich.) College in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at Charles A. Henry Field.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
