The Hiram College women’s lacrosse team was defeated by Wesley (Del.) College, 15-3, in a non-conference matchup in Dover, Del.
Wesley (2-3) scored the only goals of the first half with eight and forced 14 Hiram (1-1) turnovers to have a sizeable advantage at the break.
Wesley added two more goals to begin the second half to extend the margin to 10-0 with 25:39 left in the game. Hiram got on the scoreboard just over two minutes later when freshman JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) found the back of the net at the 23:32 minute mark to make the score 10-1. The Terriers’ other two scores in the period were scored by senior Lacey Zerner (Canton/Jackson) on a free-position shot and by freshman Allison Spitz (Hudson). But the Wolverines added five more scores following the Grover goal to go on to post the 15-3 victory.
In net for Hiram, freshman Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played all 60 minutes and posted 10 saves in 25 shots faced. She is now 1-1 overall for the season following today’s action.
Hiram will play a non-conference game against Notre Dame of Maryland University tomorrow (Saturday, Mar. 9) in Baltimore, Md. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
