Hiram College

Sophomore Kayla Yost (Norwalk/Perkins) scored 20 points, but the Hiram College women’s basketball team fell to Albion (Mich.) at the Terrier Tip-Off Classic on Friday night.

The Terriers drop to 1-2 on the season, while the Britons stay perfect at 3-0.

Yost recorded her second straight 20-point game. She also pulled down five rebounds and dished out a career-high five assists.

Senior Kelsey Koskinen (Madison) added 17 points and freshman Mercedes Jones (Dayton/Ponitz Career Technology Center) finished with 12 off the bench.

Erin Nelson led Albion with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Britons were able to grab a early lead and take a 37-20 advantage into the break.

Hiram began chipping away at the lead in the second half.

A 3-pointer by Koskinen cut the Britons lead to 40-28 with 15:46 left.

A layup by Jones with 10:51 remaining brought Hiram to within 48-39 with just under 11 minutes to go.

But that was as close as Hiram would get, as the Britons countered with a 15-4 run to put the game away.

The Terriers finished the game 23-of-61 (37.7 percent) from the field, while Albion shot 29-of-63 (46.0 percent).

Hiram will return to action on Saturday in its second game of the Terrier Tip-Off Classic against Calvin (Mich.) at 3 p.m.
