Freshman goalie Luke Wilhelm (Shaker Heights/University) recorded his second career shutout to lead the Hiram College men’s soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory at Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers are now 7-6-2 on the season and 2-2-2 in the NCAC, while the Tigers drop to 5-8-1, 0-5-0.
This was the third consecutive overtime contest for Hiram, with the previous two resulting in ties.
Wilhelm made five stops in goal and is now 2-0-2 on the year.
The Terriers benefitted from an own goal to win the game in the first overtime.
Senior Ryan Kramarz (Chesterland/West Geauga) fired a shot that deflected off of Wittenberg’s Andrew Yokum and into the net.
Kramarz took a team-high three shots in the game.
The Tigers outshot Hiram 10-8, but the Terriers held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Hiram will return to action on October 25, when it travels to take on second-ranked Kenyon at 3 p.m.
