The 11th annual John M. Watson Memorial Concert will be held Friday, May 5 in Hayden Auditorium in Bates Hall on the Hiram College campus. Artists Carlos Jones and The PLUS band will energize the stage with a performance beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Carlos Jones, known as the “Iron Man” of the Cleveland reggae scene, is celebrating 39 years in the music business. Since the 1990s he has led a stripped-down, soulful and mostly acoustic combo called The PLUS Band (Peace Love Unity Syndicate). Group members include: Carlos Jones (vocals, guitar, percussion), Peter Platten (keyboards, vocals), Ghani Harris (guitar, vocals), Max Eger (guitar), Will Douglas (drums), Curt Johnson (percussion) and Roy Isaac (percussion).
At a reception immediately following the concert, a graduating senior will be awarded with the Watson Senior Prize in Music. The prize helps a Hiram College student with graduate school expenses. The concert is endowed by the family of John M. Watson, a musician who had a deep connection and long-standing ties to the Hiram community.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Hiram College Music Department 330-569-5294.
