Jeff Wanser, coordinator of government documents and collection development at the Hiram College Library and adjunct faculty in the Weekend College and Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies program, has recently reached the milestone of 100 published book reviews. Number 100, Amiri Baraka’s “Digging: The Afro-American Soul of American Classical Music,” was published in the latest issue of “Music Reference Services Quarterly.”
Wanser has been reviewing books for such publications as “Historical Archaeology,” “Material Culture” and “Choice” since 1989. His interests include archaeology, American material culture and American popular music. In addition to books, he has published more than a dozen web site and database reviews, and contributes short reviews of jazz and folk music albums to “CD Hotlist,” an online recommendation service for music libraries. Wanser has also written several encyclopedia articles on his interests, published in “The Encyclopedia of the Blues,” “Encyclopedia of American Folklife,” “Encyclopedia of New England” and the “American National Biography.” Wanser says someday he will write a book.
