Hiram College volleyball player and freshman middle hitter Emily Mortimer( Mogadore/Field) has been named this week’s North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Mortimer helped the Terriers to a perfect 3-0 record this past week with victories against Allegheny (Pa.) College, Ohio Wesleyan University and Kalamazoo (Mich.) College. The three victories improved Hiram’s record to 20-5 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC. It also marks a fourth-straight 20-win season and ninth year with 20 or more victories in the last 10 seasons.
For the week, Mortimer led the team in kills with 25 (2.78 kills per set) and had an impressive .455 hitting percentage. She also led the team in blocks defenively recording two solo and eight block assists. In addition, Mortimer tallied two set assists and four digs.
After 25 matches, Mortimer continues to make an impact for the Terriers in her first season with the program. To date, she is second on the team in kills at 209 (2.58 k/s) with a .325 hitting percentage. She also leads the team and the conference in blocks with 122 (47 solo and 75 assists). In addition, Mortimer ranks amongst the team leaders in service aces (14) and has added 35 digs.
Hiram will play its final five matches of the regular season on the road, beginning with a non-conference matchup against Case on Wednesday, Oct. 17 in University Circle. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
