HIRAM, OHIO – The Hiram College volleyball team defeated Denison University, 3-0, tonight (Oct. 20) in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Price Gymnasium. [Match statistics]
With the win, the Terriers improve to 19-9 overall and improved their conference record to 9-1 in the NCAC. The loss for Denison dropped their record to 10-16 overall and 6-6 NCAC.
Hiram defeated Denison in the first set by a 25-20 final. The second set was the closest of the match as Hiram pulled away late to take the set 25-21. The Terriers rolled to a 25-18 win in the third set for the the match sweep.
JuniorAll-NCAC outside hitter Shaina Bryan (South Euclid/Brush) led all scorers with 13 kills. Junior middle hitter, Andrea Kaminsky (Canton/Glen Oak) was second in the match with 10 kills. Senior setter Alyssa Coundourides (Brunswick/Parma-Padua Franciscan) and freshman setter Kallie Rogers (Petersburg/Springfield Local) were neck and neck in assists with Coundourides racking up 21 asssists while Rogers tallied 20.
Defensively, senior outside hitter Kim Sage (Bellevue) led the defense with 16 digs while freshman setter Danielle Day (Newbury) was second on the team with eight digs. Junior All-NCAC middle hitter Kristi Opfer (Garrettsville/Garfield) had six total blocks (one solo and five assists), followed by junior outside hitter Megan Woodard (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) with four (one solo, three assists)
Next up for Hiram is a tri-match on Saturday, October 23, on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. The Terriers will face the Battling Bishops in a NCAC match at 1 p.m. followed by a non-conference matchup against Otterbein College at 3 p.m.
