The Hiram College volleyball team posted a pair of victories on the first day of the Hiram Invitational at Price Gymnasium. The Terriers defeated Frostburg (Md.) State University, 3-0, in their first match and beat Capital University, 3-1, in the nightcap.
With the victories, Hiram won its third and fourth-straight matches and improves to 6-1 overall for the season.
In the match against Frostburg, the Terriers captured the first set, 25-19, to take an early 1-0 match lead. Hiram then won the second and third sets with the scores 25-15 and 25-17 to sweep the Bobcats 3-0.
Against Capital, the Crusaders looked to take an early lead with a convincing win in set one, 25-14. Hiram then rallied winning the next three sets by the scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-18 in a 3-1 come-from-behind match victory.
Hiram will conclude the invitational tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 8) with its first match scheduled for 11 a.m. against Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University at Price Gym. The Terriers will end the tournament with a matchup against Geneva (Pa.) College at 3 p.m.
