The Hiram College volleyball team came away with a pair of victories against Earlham (Ind.) College and the University of Rochester (N.Y.) in a non-conference tri-match hosted by Rochester in Rochester, N.Y.
With the wins, the Terriers are now 16-6 overall for the season.
Hiram began the day with a match against Earlham and defeated the Quakers in straight sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-21. Offensively, the Terriers were led by freshman Marissa Jay(Parma/Padua Franciscan) with nine kills. Sophomores Lindsay and Logan Brewer(Barberton/Manchester) were second with five kills each. All-NCAC juniors Tierra Moore(Canton/Canton South) and Jennifer Yardas (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) each posted a team-high eight set assists. In addition, Moore tallied a team-high four service aces, followed by Logan Brewer and freshman Megan Schaefer (Elyria) with three aces each.
Defensively, freshman Laura Kelly (Massillon/Jackson) had 26 digs, followed by junior Regina Zyle(Cleveland/Beaumont) with 13 digs and Yardas added 12 digs. Logan Brewer led the team in blocking with six block assists.
In the match against Rochester, Hiram again recorded a straight-set victory with the scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-20. Jay led the offensive attack with 12 kills, followed by Lindsay Brewer with seven kills. Moore set up the offense with 20 set assists.
The defense was led by senior Danielle Day (Newbury) who posted 14 digs. Zyle was second with 13 digs and Kelly had 10 digs. At the net, freshman Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) led the team in blocking with seven block assists.
Hiram will look to continue its four-match win streak when it hosts Case in a non-conference matchup at Price Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
