HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College volleyball team defeated John Carroll University in straight sets, 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-18), tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 21) in a non-conference match at Price Gymnasium. [Match Statistics]
With the win, the Terriers have won their last 10 matches and are now 11-4 overall. Hiram was also not lost a set during the streak (27-0). The Blue Streaks fall to 8-6 overall for the season.
The Hiram offense was led by senior outside hitter Megan Woodard (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) with 13 kills. Senior All-Region outside hitter Shaina Bryan (South Euclid/Brush) was second with 12 kills and senior All-North Coast Athletic Conference middle hitter Kristi Opfer (Garrettsville/Garfield) added eight kills. Senior Taylor Summerfield (Warren/Howland) set up the offense with a team-high 33 set assists. Opfer also tallied a team-leading three service aces offensively.
On defense, freshman libero Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) tallied a team-best 17 digs and was followed by Bryan with 10 digs. Opfer posted a team-leading five total blocks (five assists) and senior All-NCAC middle hitter Andrea Kaminsky (Canton/GlenOak) added three blocks (three assists).
Hiram will take its current winning streak into conference play this weekend when the Terriers travel to Gambier for the first of two NCAC Volleyball Weekends. Kenyon College will play host this this weekend’s matches with the Terriers taking on Ohio Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. in the conference opener. Hiram will then play No. 3 nationally-ranked Wittenberg University at 8 p.m.
