ERIE, PA. — The Hiram College volleyball team posted a pair of victories tonight (Friday, Sept. 9) after the first day of competition at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational in Erie, Pa. The Terriers defeated Saint Vincent (Pa.) College, 3-1, in their opening match of the day and defeated host school PSU-Behrend, 3-0, in the nightcap.
Following today’s action, the Terriers improve to 3-4 overall for the season.
In the match against Saint Vincent, Hiram fell behind early dropping the first set by the score of 25-22. But the Terriers then rallied and captured the next three sets, including a close second set, 27-25, to even the overall match at 1-1. Hiram post winning scores of 25-12 and 25-19 in sets three and four to secure the 3-1 match victory.
Against PSU-Behrend, the Terriers took a commanding 2-0 lead with a pair of convincing victories against the Lions in sets one and two, 25-16 and 25-10. The third set was close between the two schools, but it would be Hiram who would come out on top with the final of 26-24 to complete the 3-0 straight set win.
Hiram will conclude the two-day event tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 10) with a pair of matches beginning with a matchup against Marietta College at 10 a.m., followed by a match against D’Youville (N.Y.) College at 2 p.m.
