BEXLEY, OHIO — The Hiram College volleyball team opened the 2010 Capital University Tournament with a pair of victories today (Friday, Sept. 3) at the Capital Center in Bexley. The Terriers defeated host school Capital, 3-1, and then went on beat Penn State-Altoona, 3-0.
With the victories, Hiram evens its record at 2-2 overall for the season.
In the match against Capital, the Crusaders took an early match lead, capturing the first set by the score of 25-17. Hiram then answered by winning the second set, 25-18, to even the match at a set apiece. The Terriers then captured the second and third sets, 25-14 and 25-18, as part of their three-set come-from-behind victory, 3-1.
In the final match of the day against PSU-Altoona, Hiram won in straight sets. The Terriers recorded a victory in the first set with a score of 25-19 and then went on to victories in sets two and three, 25-15 and 25-17, to complete the sweep and the 3-0 match victory.
Hiram will complete the two-event tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 4) with two matches beginning with a matchup against Hanover (Ind.) College at 11:30 a.m. in Bexley. Depending upon the outcome of other matches, the Terriers will then play in a match at 1:30 or 3:30 p.m. in the championship or consolation rounds.
