The Hiram College volleyball team split its first two matches on day one of the River City Classic hosted by Marietta College in Marietta. The Terriers were defeated by Bethany (W.Va.) College, 3-0, in their first match, but rallied to be Frostburg (Md.) State, 3-0, in the nightcap.
Following today’s matches, the Terriers are now 4-2 overall for the season.
In the match against Bethany, the Bison captured a close first set edging Hiram, 25-23, to take the early match lead. Bethany took a commanding 2-0 advantage by winning set two, 25-16 and then put the match away with a third set victory outlasting the Terriers, 26-24, to post the 3-0 overall match win.
Against Frostburg State, Hiram rebounded from the earlier loss by dominating set one, 25-8. The second set was closer between the two schools, but the Terriers came out on top with the final score of, 25-21, to boast a 2-0 match advantage. Hiram then beat Frostburg, 25-12, in what turned out to be the final set to complete the 3-0 straight-set victory.
Hiram will wrap-up the two-day River City Classic tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 7) with its final two matches beginning with a matchup against Transylvania (Ky.) College at 11 a.m. The Terriers will then take on Ohio (W.Va.) Valley University in the finale at 2 p.m.
