WOOSTER, OHIO — The Hiram College volleyball team won one of two matches today (Saturday, Sept. 18) at the final day of The College of Wooster Kilt Classic in Wooster. The Terriers defeated Capital University, 3-1, in their first match, but fell to Otterbein College, 3-1, in their final match.
Following today’s matches, the Terriers are now 8-5 overall.
In the match against Capital, Hiram jumped out to a 2-0 match lead by winning the first two sets by the scores of 25-23 and 25-16. The Crusaders avoided the straight-set sweep by winning the third set, 25-18. The Terriers then put the match away in the fourth set with the score of 25-21 to take a 3-1 overall match win.
Against Otterbein, both teams would trade sets with the Cardinals capturing the first set, 25-21, and the Terriers winning the second set, 25-20, for a 1-1 match tie. Otterbein won the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-17, to prevail for the 3-1 match victory.
Following the tournament, junior middle hitter Kristi Opfer (Garrettsville/Garfield) was selected to the All-Tournament Team for her individual efforts.
Hiram will host non-conference opponent Thomas More (Ky.) College tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 19) in the home opener at Price Gymnasium. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
