CLEVELAND, OHIO — Hiram College volleyball player and senior setter Taylor Summerfield (Warren/Howland) has been named this week’s North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Hiram won all four of its matches in its only action of the week during the final NCAC volleyball weekend this past Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 15-16). The Terriers recorded straight-set victories in three of the four matches this weekend against Oberlin, Kenyon, Allegheny (Pa.) and also beat DePauw (Ind.), 3-2.
Individually, Summerfield had a team-high 144 set assists in 14 sets (10.2 per set) to help the Terriers extend their current winning streak to 10 matches and improve to 22-6 overall and 10-2 in the NCAC. In addition, Summerfield also recorded four kills and three service aces on offense to go along with 22 digs and seven total blocks defensively.
For the season, Summerfield has 950 assists (10.22 a/s) which leads the NCAC and also ranks amongst the national leaders. She has also recorded 38 kills (0.41 k/s) with a .292 hitting percentage, including 22 aces which rank third most on the team. Defensively, Summerfield is currently fourth on the team in digs with 165 (1.77 digs per set) and has added 20 total blocks (three solo and 17 assists).
Hiram will look to equal its largest winning streak of the season of 11 matches when the Terriers travel to Wooster for a NCAC matchup against The College of Wooster on Saturday, Oct. 22. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
