TIFFIN, OHIO — The Hiram College volleyball team was defeated by No. 11 nationally-ranked Heidelberg University, 3-2, tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 7) in a non-conference match in Tiffin.
With the loss, the Terriers fall to 1-4 overall for the season and the Student Princes remain unbeaten and improve to 5-0 overall.
Hiram jumped out early winning the first two sets winning both by the scores of 25-21 to take a 2-0 match lead. But Heidelberg rallied by winning the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-23, to even the match at 2-2 and forced a deciding fifth set. It would be the Student Princes who would come out on top in the fifth set, winning by the final of 15-10 to claim the 3-2 overall match victory.
Hiram will next travel to Erie, Pa. for the Penn State-Behrend Invitional on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 9-10. The Terriers will begin the two-day event with a pair of matches on Friday, beginning with a matchup against St. Vincent (Pa.) College at 5:30 p.m., followed by a match against host school PSU-Behrend at 7:30 p.m.
