The Hiram College volleyball team fell victim to non-conference opponent Baldwin Wallace University, 3-0, at Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
Baldwin Wallace (5-5) captured the first set, 25-20, to take the early 1-0 match lead against Hiram (6-3). The Yellow Jackets then took control of the match by winning the second set, 25-21, and then put the match away with a victory in set three, 25-13, to complete the straight-set sweep.
Individually for Hiram, freshman Marissa Jay (Parma/Padua Franciscan) led the Terrier offensive attack with a match-high 15 kills. Sophomore Lyndsay Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) was second with eight kills. Setting up the offense was junior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) with 19 assists, followed by freshman Claire Maier (Huntsville/Indian Lake) with 17 assists.
Defensively, junior Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) tallied a match-high 20 digs. Sophomore Katie Barton (Newbury) was second on the team with 10 digs. Up front, sophomore Logan Brewer(Barberton/Manchester) and Jay each recorded a block assist.
Hiram will return to action when it hosts a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Price Gymnasium. The Terriers will play their first match of the day against Defiance College at 1 p.m., followed by a rematch against BW at approximately 5 p.m.
