The Hiram College volleyball team came out one the winning end of a 3-2 match victory against non-conference opponent Case in University Circle.
Hiram (21-5) defeated the Spartans (18-9) by the scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 16-25 and 15-11. Leading the Terrier offense was sophomore right-side player Jennifer Yardas (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) with 13 kills. Senior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) was second with 11 kills and freshman middle hitter Emily Mortimer (Mogadore/Field) added nine kills. Sophomore setter Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) had 48 set assists while freshman Kayla Bartlett (Guysville/Alexander) had two service aces.
On defense, Pund had a team-high 16 digs, followed by Bartlett with 13 digs. Up front, sophomore middle hitter Shirjoma Jacobs (Maple Heights) had a combined five blocks (one solo and four assists) in addition to Moore recording four blocks (four assists) and Mortimer adding four blocks (one solo and three assists).
Hiram will travel to Springfield for a North Coast Athletic Conference match against No. 3 nationally-ranked and defending NCAA Division III National Champion Wittenberg University on Friday, Oct. 19. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
