BEREA, OHIO — The Hiram College volleyball team got off to a rough start to begin the 2010 season by dropping a pair of matches at the season-opening Baldwin-Wallace College quad match today (Wednesday, Sept. 1) in Berea. The Terriers lost the first match against host school Baldwin-Wallace, 3-0, and also fell to NCAA Division II Walsh University, 3-1.
With the losses, the Terriers began the season with a 0-2 overall record.
In the match against the Yellow Jackets, B-W took the opening set, 25-15, to grab an early 1-0 match lead. B-W then went on to capture both the second and third sets by the scores of 25-21 and 25-16 to complete the three-match sweep.
In the final match of the night against Walsh, the Cavaliers took control of the match by winning the first sets, 25-23 and 25-22, to lead 2-0. Hiram took the third set, 25-22, to cut the deficit to 2-1. But it would be all Walsh in the fourth set, winning by the score of 25-10, to take the 3-1 match victory.
Hiram will travel to Bexley for the annual Capital University Tournament on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 3-4 at the Capital Center. The Terriers will take on host school Capital at 2:30 p.m. followed a match against PSU-Altoona at 4:30 p.m.
