The third-seeded Hiram College volleyball team defeated sixth-seeded Ohio Wesleyan University, 3-1, in a quarterfinal match of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Wittenberg University in Springfield.
Hiram (25-7) defeated Ohio Wesleyan (11-18) by the scores of 28-26, 25-12, 22-25 and 25-18. The offense was led by senior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) who had a match-high 15 kills and a .359 hitting percentage. Two other Terriers finished in double figures in kills with freshman outside hitterEmily Mortimer (Mogadore/Field) contributing with 13 kills and sophomore right-side player Jennifer Yardas(Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) adding 11 kills. Setting up the offense was sophomore Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) with a match-high 47 assists. In addition freshman Kayla Bartlett (Guysville/Alexander) recorded a team-high three service aces.
The defense was led by junior Danielle Day (Newbuy) who racked up 28 digs. Moore was second with 12 digs while Pund and Bartlett each added 11 digs. Mortimer led the team in blocks with six (six assists) and was followed by Pund with four (four assists).
Hiram will take on the winner of the #2 seed DePauw (Ind.) vs. #7 seed Allegheny (Pa.) match tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 3) in the semifinals beginning at noon.
