The Hiram College volleyball team defeated Oberlin College in straight sets, 3-0, in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener at Price Gymnasium.
With the win, the Terriers improve to 12-3 overall and 1-0 NCAC. The Yeowomen fall to 7-5 overall and 0-1 NCAC.
Hiram defeated Oberlin by the scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-13. Leading the Terrier offense was senior outside hitter Ariel Pund (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) with a match-high 14 kills. Sophomore middle hitter Shirjoma Jacobs (Maple Heights) was second with seven kills. Freshman setter Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) set up the offense with a match-high 28 assists. Pund and freshman middle hitter Emily Mortimer (Mogadore/Field) each recorded a team-best two service aces.
Defensively, junior libero Danielle Day (Newbury) had a team-high nine digs and was followed by Moore with seven. Mortimer led the way up front with a total of six blocks (three solo and three assists).
Hiram will travel to Gambier for a NCAC matchup against Kenyon College on Saturday, Sept. 22 as part of a tri-match. The Terriers will face off against the Ladies at 1 p.m., followed by a non-conference match against Marietta College at 3 p.m.
